Film studies and art are just two of the subjects of a new set of courses run by the Workers' Educational Association in Scarborough. A 10-week film-studies course entitled Global Trends starts on 8 January at the Stephen Joseph Theatre.
The day before, tutor George Cromack will introduce a screening of the dark French comedy Delicatessen. That’s at 2.45pm on 7 January.
The course will look at various genres including British kitchen sink, Italian neo-realism, German expressionism, the French Cinéma du look and US, Czech and Japanese new waves.
An art course by exhibiting artist Ruth Collett starts on 10 January at Woodend. It will take inspiration from cave art, early sculpture, folk art and the classical world of Greek and Roman art.
Other WEA course subjects include creative writing, ceramics, yoga, world dance, helping in schools and singing.
