Café raises £484 for community centre

A café on Scarborough seafront raised nearly £500 for Eastfield community centre just before Christmas.

Waterfront, in Sandside, donated a day’s takings - £384.36 - to the charity, said partners Josh Clark and Jenna Burrows, who have run the café for two years.

The takings were boosted by a £100 donation from Josh’s aunt Victoria Corrigan of the nearby Holy Cow ice-cream shop. That took the total to £484.36.

“It was busy for a December winter morning a week before Christmas, with everyone spending in town”, a slightly surprised Josh said.

The café’s normal fare was supplemented by various cakes donated by friends and a supplier. The day’s milk and bread were provided at no charge and the coffee was donated by Bay Town.

Waterfront has a good relationship with Eastfield community centre. “The people that run it come here for coffee every morning and we donated our old equipment to the centre, for their café”, Josh said.
